Patch Notes Beta September 14th to 17th

(This was the last beta patch, and the first patch in which the NDA on Battlerite was lifted.)

A lot of stuff has been changed between the last beta session and this one, so there's a lot to go through! First off though, if you're curious about who achieved the highest ratings based on the rating system used for the last beta session, you can see the Top 35 here.

General[ | ]

  • Movement speed increased by ~5% (champions and mounts).
    • Movement speed during melee attacks slightly increased.
  • Cancel-cast cooldown reduced to 1s from 1.5s.
    • Interrupting an ability that can be cast while moving now removes the movement slowdown associated with it.

In our quest to find the balance for movement, reaction and aiming we’ve made some adjustments to movement speed and specifically movement speed during melee attacks. These changes should make the movement feel more responsive. Dodging will be more viable and thus we’ve also reduced the effectiveness of protective abilities such as heals and shields to compensate.

  • Ultimates can now be interrupted by lockdown crowd controls such as Stun, Panic, Petrify and Incapacitate. Knockbacks will not interrupt Ultimates but the player is no longer immune to them.
    • When applicable, energy is drained over the duration of an Ultimate. If you are interrupted 50% through an Ultimate, you retain 50% energy.
    • Cancel casting / manually interrupting a channeling Ultimate will expend the whole energy cost of the Ultimate (100).

This change aims to enable more counterplay towards Ultimates whilst avoiding punishing the player too hard if they are attempting to pull an Ultimate in a suboptimal situation.

Introducing the Odeum[ | ]

The Odeum allows you to view, edit and share replays (also known as Plays) with other people. When you complete a match, you can use the Odeum to view a replay of it. You can then share that replay, or a specific part of it, to the Odeum which allows other players to find and view it. You can search for players to follow and to see what plays they have shared. When you find a particularly awesome Play, you can repost it to share it with your own followers!

You automatically follow all players on your friendslist!

The Odeum is currently in an early state but we hope you enjoy this addition to Battlerite!

Rating[ | ]

  • Rating is now calculated in a different way, resulting in greater precision.
  • Grade system has been redesigned
    • Grade 1-5 now acts as “Placement” games
    • Your skill-rating will be displayed once you get past Grade 5
    • Skill-rating ranges from 0 - 5000+. You can get Promoted or Demoted depending on your progress. The highest achievable grade is Grade 15.

These improvements should increase the quality of matches whilst also making it more rewarding to climb the ladder. As mentioned previously, there will be several updates and improvements to Ranking Systems during the Early Access period.

Rewards[ | ]

  • Silver Chests now always contains at least one Rare item.
  • Several items have been improved and updated with new textures and effects
  • You can now see what the next reward on the next level will be in the reward screen.
  • All Victory Poses have been devalued to Rare quality.
  • New model for tokens in the reward screen.

As we continuously raise our bar for quality we’ve improved on some of the existing outfits & weapons while adding a couple of new ones. We intend to further improve some of the existing items over the course of Early Access and add more cosmetics over time!

Champions[ | ]

After analyzing the data and listening to our players we’ve made a number of balance changes to Champions. Our current focus is to ensure that all Champions are unique and fun to play whilst addressing the major balance issues. Over the course of Early Access we intend to switch to a balanced-focused approach where we only target a few champions per individual update. But for the early builds you can expect broader changes to all Champions to occur.

Shifu has been performing well in almost any setup. His mobility coupled with his high damage output made him a bit too strong.

Pearl & Oldur were outshining other support Champions and have thus been tuned down, whilst Lucie has received some buffs to compensate for her low mobility.

Taya and Ashka have received some slight buffs to get in-line with other ranged Champions.

The movement speed changes affect melee Champions the most; they will now have an easier time to stick to their targets.

  • Summon a firewall at target location. It blocks projectiles and inflicts Ignite to enemies that enter.
    now triggers a visual effect when a projectile is blocked.
  • Pure Fire effect now heals 12 health per hit instead of 100% of damage done.
  • Turn into a fire elemental and dash forward to deal 36 damage and inflict Stun. Leaves a trail of scorched earth, dealing 24 damage and inflicting Ignite to enemies in the area over 4s.
    • Ashka is no longer unhittable in his charge up period, before he launches forward.
    • Impact damage increased to 36 from 32.
  • Fixed a bug causing Ignite to break crowd controls such as Incapacitate (dots are not supposed to break CC)

    bolt to spawn a small distance in front of the firewall when a fireball turns into a Fire Storm bolt.
  • Melee attack that deals 9 damage. Successful hits reduce cooldown of Blood Axe by 0.6s and charge your weapon, increasing the damage of your next Blood Axe.

  • Put up your shield and block projectile and melee attacks in front of you. Reflects enemy projectiles and inflicts Stun on enemy melee attackers.
    can no longer be interrupted by spellblock once the shield is up.
  • Let loose a war shout that grants a Shield to nearby allies, absorbing up to 40 damage for 2.5s.
    cooldown reduced to 15s from 20s.
  • Rush forward and grab an enemy dealing 35 damage and pushing them in front of you. Deals 28 area damage and inflicts Stun when reaching max range or when colliding with a wall or another enemy.
    cast time increased to 0.7s from 0.6s.

  • Spin into a whirlwind dance and deal 112 damage over 2.75s to nearby enemies. Grants you a Shield and movement speed increase for the duration.

Bug Fixes[ | ]

  • QWERTZ and AZERTY keyboard layouts will no longer swap the AQWZY-keys incorrectly.
  • Fixed an issue where Chat wouldn't allow the user to scroll.
  • Fixed an issue where certain characters from the Polish alphabet wouldn't display correctly in the UI.
  • Fixed a performance issue which may have caused some users to disconnect between rounds.
  • Fixed a bug where the input box sometimes got disabled in private lobby chat.
  • Observing a game no longer hides Energy, Stacks, Rage or Upgrades for the opposing team of your current viewed target.
